Honoring trailblazer, Chani Getter
Raised in a Chassidic home, Chani left an arranged marriage as a single mother to live life as an openly queer Jew. For the last 15 years, Chani has led support groups, directed retreats, and helped build a community for LGBTQ+ Jews, especially women, trans, and nonbinary folks from Chassidic backgrounds. Chani was featured in the Netflix film "One of Us”, and has worked closely with lifesaving organizations like Footsteps, Nehirim, Eshel, Keshet, and JQY.

LGBTQ+ teens in Jewish high schools across the country are showing incredible courage and doing amazing work, often unrecognized. While most Orthodox high schools do not have any "official" queer-straight alliance groups, there are "unofficial" groups and programs in every type of yeshiva. We are honoring these brave students for their incredible work and resilience. The event will feature a live panel of current yeshiva students sharing their experiences of being LGBTQ+ in Orthodox high schools.
