Parsha Reflections: Parshat Matot-Masei

Parsha Reflections: Parshat Matot-Masei

This shabbat, we finish reading the entire book of devarim. Some say “chazak chazak v’nit(s)chazek” – be strong be strong and may we be strengthened – upon completion of a book of Torah. Others say “chazak ubaruch” – be strong and blessed – after every aliyah, and some say chazak chazak chazak – the gematria (numerical value) of Moshe’s name.

These words aren’t just about physical or spiritual resilience. They’re about the kind of strength it takes to think for yourself, to feel deeply, and to stand in your truth – especially when the world expects silence or sameness.

To think critically. To feel fully. To question, to wonder, and to grow. These are all types of self-exploration that take real bravery.

As we end this book of the Torah and begin another, may we be strengthened by our own selves and by one another. May we be blessed with strength of heart and mind, with bravery and courage. May we always be able to draw strength from one another, and may we share our strength generously with each other.
